FBR froze 13 bank accounts of PIA due to unpaid Rs8 billion in FED.


Karachi: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) froze 13 bank accounts of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). FBR took action due to unpaid Federal Excise Duty (FED) of worth Rs8 billion rupees.
FBR officials reported that the national carrier’s bank accounts related to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) would be frozen.
The Federal Board of Revenue has decided to register a First Information Report (FIR) against PIA officials for not submitting FED.
FBR officials stated that FED was not submitted last month despite the bank accounts being restored.
Abdullah Khan, PIA spokesperson remarked that flight operations will not be affected due to frozen national carrier’s bank accounts.
“There is strong communication between PIA and government level. PIA accounts will be restored soon” the spokesperson added.
The PIA officials promised to pay Rs2 billion in the month of August.
Currently, National Airlines is facing difficulty in paying fuel for its planes.
As per reports Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has refused to supply fuel to PIA due to remaining debts.
