Lahore: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday rejected bail petition of PTI-Punjab President Dr Yasmin Rashid and others in the Shadman Police Station attack case on Tuesday.
The hearing on PTI leader Dr. Yasmin Rashid's bail plea was presided over by a bench made up of Justice Alia Neelum and Justice Asjad Javed Gharal.
Dr. Yasmin Rashid has been charged with encouraging the attack on the Shadman police station in Lahore on May 9.
The petitioners were represented in court by attorneys Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan and Muhammad Zia.
Assistant Prosecutor General Tahir Siddique and Rai Ahsan Ali appeared before the court on behalf of the Punjab government.
The public prosecutor argued before the court that the petitioners' cases now include new provisions, and they must attend at the investigation.
The petitioners' attorneys presented justifications for issuing bail.
ustice Miss Alia Neelam held that the petitioners should join the investigation first – face the trial court and then apply for a bail petition.
Dr. Yasmeen Rashid approached the High Court for bail on 12 July 2023. She has sought bail in FIR No. 768/23 under Section Seven ATA, in the case of setting fire to Shadman police station during the May 09 riots.
In the application for bail, the government and Shadman Police Station were made parties.
Meanwhile, the Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Tuesday sent PTI leader Mian Mehmood-ur-Rashid to jail on a 14-day judicial remand. The police have demanded further physical remand of the accused.
The court ordered that Mian Mehmood-ul-Rashid should be produced again on September 19.
Judge Abher Gul Khan of the Anti-Terrorism Court conducted the hearing and PTI leader Mian Mehmood-ul-Rashid was produced on completion of his physical remand.
He is involved in a case pertaining to the May 9 riots. The case includes provisions for sedition, waging war, and inciting people to riot.
In another case, the Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court extended the judicial remand of former PTI MNA Rubina Jameel by 14 days.
Rubina Jameel was produced on completion of her judicial remand. The investigating officer requested the court for the judicial remand of the accused to be extended.
He maintained that the accused Rubina Jameel and others are accused of Jinnah House attack and arson. “Their case challan is under preparation, therefore, their judicial should be extended.
