Pakistan loses Olympics hosting due to hockey infighting in PHF
The International Hockey Federation has officially withdrawn the hosting rights from Pakistan, citing concerns related to the ongoing infighting in PHF.
Lahore: Pakistan has lost the opportunity to host the Olympics qualifying round for hockey due to internal disputes and differences within the sport.
The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has officially withdrawn the hosting rights from Pakistan, citing concerns related to the ongoing infighting and uncertainty surrounding the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF).
FIH conveyed this decision to the PHF through a formal letter, marking a significant setback for Pakistan's hockey aspirations.
Several factors contributed to this unfortunate turn of events.
The interference of the Pakistan Sports Board in PHF's affairs added to the turmoil, and constant criticism from former Olympians further tarnished Pakistan's hosting prospects.
FIH's letter emphasized that, given the prevailing uncertainty and internal issues within the PHF, the federation is currently not in a position to effectively host these crucial Olympic qualifying events.
Furthermore, the PHF failed to provide necessary updates on critical matters such as broadcasting, operational planning, and security, despite repeated inquiries and reminders from FIH.
Originally scheduled for January 13 to 21, 2024, in Lahore, the Olympics hockey qualifying round was set to be a historic event for Pakistan.
It would have marked the first time Pakistan hosted the qualifying round, with eight foreign teams participating.
However, due to the unfortunate circumstances and internal strife, Pakistan's dream of hosting this prestigious event has been shattered, leaving hockey enthusiasts and fans disappointed.
