Karachi: Number of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights were cancelled on Tuesday due shortage of funds.
According to sources with knowledge of the incident, several domestic flights to and from Karachi were canceled because the national flag airline neglected to pay Pakistan State Oil (PSO) for fuel supply.
Furthermore, One-way domestic flights from Karachi to Faisalabad, Islamabad, and Lahore as well as the Karachi-Muscat flight have been canceled, according to reports.
Flights from Karachi to Turbat, Bahawalpur, and Sukkur have also been canceled, according Pakistani airline sources.
According to insiders, the government has been asked for emergency funding by the national flag carrier.
Earlier yesterday, the national flag carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has failed to clear the salary dues of its employees due to the severe financial crisis
According to sources, the PIA employees are still not receiving their salaries from August. Due to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) freeze of bank accounts, the national airline is currently experiencing multiple financial crises.
The PIA spokesperson claimed that the federal government in charge had committed to pay the airline. The official noted that salaries for PIA staff members would be paid out in a week.
The finances of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the country's flag airline, were frozen by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in August due to the non-payment of more than Rs 8 billion in taxes.
