Islamabad: Intelligence and law enforcement agencies have initiated a major operation to combat gold smuggling and the gold mafia on Friday.
Sources claim that a task group made up of the authorities has been established to take firm action against illicit activity.
According to the sources, the task force's goal is to apprehend the traffickers so that legal action may be done against them.
Further information revealed that the task force had created lists of mafia and smugglers and planned to take action against them.
In addition, the government made the decision to begin working quickly to computerize the selling and acquisition of gold and include gold dealers in the tax system.
It should be noted that over the past two weeks, the price of gold has decreased from Rs236,000 per tola to Rs214,000 per tola.
“This step will benefit both the people and the country,” the sources said, adding that the gold price was already on the decline.
