Court accepts Indian cricketer's divorce petition
The court ruled in favor of the Shikar Dhawan, citing he was subjected to mental torture by his wife.
Mumbai: Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has been granted a divorce, with the court ruling that he was subjected to mental torture by his wife.
The verdict was delivered by the family court located in Delhi's Patiala House complex, which accepted Shikhar Dhawan's divorce petition.
According to Judge Harish Kumar, Dhawan's wife had caused mental anguish to their son by forcing him to live separately from his father for an extended period of time.
The court upheld all the allegations made by the cricketer against his wife in the divorce petition.
In response to the court's decision, it was noted that Shikhar Dhawan's wife either did not contest the allegations or failed to defend herself against them.
Dhawan had claimed in his divorce petition that his wife had subjected him to mental torture.
Shikhar Dhawan married Ayesha Mukherjee in October 2012, and they have two daughters from their first marriage.
It's worth mentioning that Ayesha had discussed the prospect of divorce in a social media post in 2021.
In its ruling, the court did not grant permanent custody of Dhawan's son but did provide him with visitation rights.
Dhawan has been granted the right to visit his son and engage in video calls with him, considering that Ayesha Mukherjee resides in Australia, both in India and Australia.
Furthermore, the court ordered Ayesha to bring the child to India during school holidays and stay with Shikhar Dhawan's family.
