Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to suspend the decision of Election Commissionof Pakistan (ECP) to disqualify him in the Toshakhana case.

According to details, a petition has been filed by the PTI chairman in the Islamabad High Court to suspend the decision, in which he has been declared disqualified from contesting the general elections, following the notification issued by the Election Commission on the basis of conviction in Toshakhana case.

The Election Commission also issued a notification to remove former Prime Minister Imran Khan from party chairmanship after the verdict of his disqualification in Toshakhana case.

In the petition, it was appealed that implementation of the Toshakhana case decision be stopped and the Election Commission's notification of disqualification be suspended.

Chairman PTI requested that based on the decision of the IHC, the actions taken against him should be stopped and an injunction should be issued on the notification of Election Commission.

It was also stated in the petition that IHC had suspended the sentence in the Toshakhana case. Until the final decision of the appeal, an injunction should be issued on the actions taken as a result of the first decision, while our oral requests to suspend the sentence should also be made a part of the sentence suspension decision.

During the hearing on the application for suspension of sentence, the lawyer of the Election Commission asked to make the Federation a party which has nothing to do with this case, but still there is no objection to making the Federation a party, the appeal added.

Chairman PTI also requested to allow the federation to be a party in the case.

It is pertinent to note that earlier on August 28, the court suspended the sentence of Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case and ordered his release.
