The caretaker prime minister has been informed that 19,415 people, involved in power theft, were arrested while 39,836 cases have been registered since September this year.


Islamabad: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has directed to expedite the anti-power theft campaign in Azad Kashmir, Quetta and Sindh.
He gave these instructions, while chairing a review meeting regarding the anti-power theft campaign, in Islamabad today.
The meeting was apprised that 19,415 people, involved in power theft, were arrested while 39,836 cases have been registered since September this year. It was said that 189 officers involved in the theft of electricity have been suspended.
The meeting was briefed that the most successful anti-power theft campaign was observed in Mardan, where electricity-theft have reduced from 43 percent to 13 percent. Besides, billions of rupees have been collected since inception of the drive, which has been continuing with the cooperation of the federal and the provincial governments.
The Prime Minister commended the Ministry of Energy, power distribution companies and provincial and federal authorities concerned for the positive outcome of the campaign. He also directed to accelerate solarization of agricultural tube-wells in the country.
Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar instructed the officials concerned to submit a comprehensive report regarding the resistance against the anti-theft campaign and other problems being faced in Balochistan.
