New York court slaps Donald Trump with $10,000 fine
Judge Arthur Engron of the New York District Court imposed a fine on Trump for his criticism of court personnel during the civil fraud case.
New York: A local court in New York has imposed a fine of $10,000 on former US President Donald Trump.
New York District Court Judge Arthur Engoron levied this fine on Trump for his critical comments directed at court staff involved in a civil fraud case.
The penalty stems from an incident where the former US president violated a partial gag order issued on October 3, a mere three weeks ago.
Trump had taken to social media to make derogatory remarks about the judge's principal law clerk.
Before the fine was imposed, Donald Trump took the witness stand in front of the court, attempting to clarify that his comments were not directed at the court but rather at a different individual.
The judge, however, dismissed this argument, stating that it made no sense to assume Trump's statement was not aimed at the witness.
Judge Arthur Engoron cautioned Trump, saying, "Don't do it again, or the consequences will be more severe."
Following the judgment, Donald Trump left the courtroom.
This isn't the first time he has faced financial penalties; on October 20, he was fined $5,000 for failing to remove defamatory statements about a judge directed at a law clerk.
