LHC moved against detaining underage drivers
The plea, filed by Rana Sikandar Advocate, raises concerns about the detention of juvenile drivers in police lockups for driving license violations.
Lahore: A petition has been submitted to the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging the practice of detaining underage drivers in police lockups.
The plea, filed by Rana Sikandar Advocate, raises concerns about the detention of juvenile drivers in police lockups for driving license violations.
According to the plea, such action contradicts the law established in 2018, and Rana Sikandar emphasized the illegality of detaining underage children in lockups for this reason.
The petitioner has urged the Lahore High Court to issue orders addressing this issue and ensuring compliance with the law.
It's worth noting that the Lahore police have intensified efforts to crack down on underage drivers, particularly in response to a tragic road accident in Lahore's DHA that resulted in the loss of six lives within a single family. To enforce this crackdown, special checkpoints have been established in various parts of Lahore, with a particular focus on the DHA area.
The Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Lahore has emphasized the risks posed by underage drivers not only to themselves but also to others on the road. The CTO has also appealed to parents, urging them not to permit their underage children to operate vehicles or motorcycles.
