SC to hear lifelong disqualification case today
Many politicians have been disqualified under the said article, including the most prominent former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan will hear the case of lifetime disqualification of parliamentarians today (Tuesday).
According to the details, a seven-member larger bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Qazi Faez Isa will hear the case related to lifelong disqualification of members of parliament under Article 62-1F.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan are included in the bench while Justice Jamal Mandukhel, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Musarat Hilali will also be part of the bench.
It may be noted that the previous government had amended the Election Act after which the period of disqualification under Article 62-1F had been reduced to five years.
Many politicians have been disqualified under the said article, including the most prominent former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the head of the istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), Jahangir Tareen, and many other politicians.
