SC judge Justice Mazahar Naqvi resigns
Supreme Court judge Justice Mazahar Naqvi sent his resignation to the President Dr. Arif Alvi.
Islamabad: Supreme Court judge Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi Wednesday resigned from the post.
According to the details, a reference against Supreme Court judge Justice Mazahar Naqvi is under hearing in the Supreme Judicial Council, in which there were allegations related to his assets, while an alleged audio of him was also revealed, while Justice Mazahar today submitted his detailed statement to the council in this regard.
Justice Mazahar sent his resignation to President Dr. Arif Alvi in which it was stated, ‘It is not possible for me to continue working in my position, I have performed duties in Lahore High Court (LHC) and Supreme Court which is an honor for me’.
Earlier, Justice Mazahar Naqvi had submitted a detailed response to the show cause to the Supreme Judicial Council.
In his reply, Justice Mazahar denied the allegations leveled against him saying that the Supreme Judicial Council can take information against the judge but the council cannot act on any complaint against the judge.
In the detailed reply, it has been stated that the orders issued by the Supreme Judicial Council are tantamount to contempt of the rules. According to the rules, the person giving information to the council has no role in the proceedings.
Justice Mazahar Naqvi has been issued a show cause notice again, the Judicial Council has sought a response within 14 days.
The judge also objected to the appointment of the Attorney General as a prosecutor and said that one of the complainants in the council is the Pakistan Bar Council.
In his reply, Justice Mazahar further said that the Pakistan Bar met the then Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on February 21. On the day of the meeting, the Pakistan Bar approved the resolution to file the complaint.
It is further stated in the reply, ‘The order to summon the witnesses before submitting the answer to the show cause is against the law. This allegation is completely false that anyone can approach me easily, Ghulam Mahmood Dogar could not have set the case before himself. This is an administrative matter while no relief was given in the Ghulam Dogar case’.
