President’s office stated that Dr. Alvi acceded Justice Mazahar Ali’s resignation following the instructions of Prime Minister under the Article 179.


Islamabad: President Dr. Arif Alvi Thursday accepted the resignation of Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi who determined to pull off his cloak due to the misdemeanor accusations.
President’s office stated that Dr. Alvi acceded Justice Mazahar Ali’s resignation following the instructions of Prime Minister under the Article 179.
Various remonstrances of misconduct were reported against Justice Naqvi with the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) by lawyers and the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) looking for his elimination especially after his name come up in links with an alleged audio leak.
Naqvi stated that it was a privilege to be assigned and to work as a judge, first of the Lahore High Court (LHC) and then as the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Due to some conditions, it was impossible for me to keep going as a judge of the Supreme Court.
He further said that deliberations of judicial proceedings also force so I, however, effective today leave as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The resignation came after a three-member bench of the apex court moved towards Justice Aminuddin Khan and comprising Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel and Justice Musarrat Hilali rejected Justice Naqvi’s appeal seeking stopping the SJC’s proceedings.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Supreme Court judge’s name also come up in connection with the current audio leaks purportedly involving him, former Punjab chief minister Parvez Elahi and others.
