Islamabad: Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani says the heinous terrorist attack on Pakistanis in Iran is an attempt to spoil relations between Pakistan and Iran by our common enemies.

In a post on social media platform X, the Minister urged upon the Iranian government to take action.

He also offered condolences to the families of victims.

On Saturday, nine Pakistani laborers were brutally killed in the Saravan area of Iran, located near the Pakistan-Iran border.

The latest reports suggest that among the victims, five hailed from the Pakistani city of Ali Pur and its nearby regions. The individuals, employed as laborers in Iran, were ruthlessly attacked in their residences by unidentified assailants.

Taking to X, previously known as Twitter, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran  Mudassir said, “Deeply shocked by horrifying killing of 9 Pakistanis in Saravan. Embassy will extend full support to  bereaved families. Counsel Zahidan is already on his way to incident site & hospital where injured are under treatment. We called upon 🇮🇷 to extend full cooperation in the matter,”.

The Iranian media reported that no militant faction or group claimed responsibility for the heinous act so far. The assailants reportedly barged into homes in Saravan's outskirts, perpetrating the deadly assault. The reports said that three individuals sustained injuries during the gunfire. The deceased laborers were engaged in various workshops across Iran.

The authorities are working to bring the bodies and the injured back to Pakistan.
