‘The advice given by Imran Khan was very valuable to me and I would like to give full credit to him’, Afridi continued to say.

Lahore: Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, who is leading the national T20 team and Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), confirmed that he was recommended to be the captain by the former captain of Pakistani team, Imran Khan.
Talking in an interview to a foreign media platform, Shaheen Afridi said: “I have not captained at any level, maybe once at the U-19 level but I was never interested in captaincy, but then in2021 he was sitting in Prime Minister office with Lahore Qalandars owner Samin Rana and former fast bowler Aqib Javed and the then Prime Minister Imran Khan suggested me to be appointed as captain”.
Shaheen Afridi stated that obviously one can never say 'no' to Imran brother, after that he became the captain of Lahore. ‘First I was the vice-captain but when Imran brother said that I should be the captain, then there was a change and I became the captain’.
The fast bowler credited Imran Khan that when they won the title in 2022, he went to meet Imran Khan and told him that now they have won a title he wanted to thank him for showing faith in him.
He stated that that Imran Khan had said that most of the great fast bowlers have been captains because fast bowlers have the authority to set the field and understand other bowlers what they need and what they are doing.
‘The advice given by Imran Khan was very valuable to me and I would like to give full credit to him’, Afridi continued to say.
It is pertinent to note that under the leadership of Shaheen Afridi, Lahore Qalandars won the PSL back-to-back in 2022 and 2023.
When asked about the third PSL title, Shaheen Afridi said that they have won twice, so why will they not win the third.
