Barrister Gohar Khan says the PTI-backed independent candidates would join the Sunni Ittehad Council and Majlis-e-Wahdatul-Muslimeen.

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) declared its coalition with the Sunni Ittehad Council and Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) on Monday.
“We have made this decision after proper deliberations,” said Barrister Gohar while addressing a joint press conference with the leaders of Sunni Itehad Council (SIC) and Majlis-e-Wahdatul-Muslimeen (MWM) in Islamabad on Monday.
Gohar said the PTI-backed independent candidates would join the Sunni Ittehad Council and Majlis-e-Wahdatul-Muslimeen. He said the PTI candidates would formally submit their documents to join the Sunni Ittehad Council to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on the same day.
Reiterating PTI’s accusation of election rigging, Barrister Gohar claimed that despite securing 170 to 180 seats in the National Assembly (NA), the party became a victim of 'rigged' results.
Omar Ayub Khan, speaking at the event, clarified that the decision to align with the Sunni Ittehad Council aimed to secure reserved seats typically allocated to political parties. He also referenced Liaquat Chatha's allegations, a former commissioner of Rawalpindi, claiming that rigging had been orchestrated to hinder PTI's electoral success. Ayub additionally accused Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan of 'stealing' PTI seats in Karachi and Hyderabad during the 2024 elections.
MWM chief Allama Nasir Abbas and Sunni Ittehad Council head Hamid Raza Khan commended PTI for its electoral triumph without using the “bat” symbol, emphasizing that their alliance with PTI was 'unconditional.'
