Islamabad: The session of the National Assembly will be held today at 10:00am in the Parliament House and the newly elected members will take oath in the inaugural session of the new assembly.
According to the proposed schedule, in the opening session of the 16th National Assembly on February 29, Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf will administer oath to the newly elected members. After the oath, all the members will also sign the register.
After the completion of the first phase in the National Assembly, in the second phase, nomination papers will be collected for the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker. After which the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House will be elected through secret ballot in the next phase.
According to the National Assembly Secretariat, the schedule for the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker has been released. Candidates for both positions will be able to submit their nomination papers before 12 noon, while the elections will be held on Friday, March 1.
National Assembly Secretariat told that the nomination papers for the election of the Prime Minister will be collected on March 3, while the Prime Minister will be elected on March 4.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) candidate Shehbaz Sharif needs 169 votes to become the Prime Minister for the second time. Currently the PML-N and its allies have the support of more than 200 members.
