Karachi: In an unfortunate incident, one person was killed, while six sustained the injuries as a result of cylinder explosion that took place in Karachi's New Chali area.
According to the details, there was a loud explosion in the generator market building in front of the main entrance of the Chamber of Commerce. The sound of the explosion was heard far and wide.
Rescue and police officials reached the scene, but the fire brigade staff could not make it and the building got engulfed in heavy fire.
According to locals, some people may still be inside the shop and operations are underway to evacuate them.
The incident took place as gas cylinders—whether used for domestic or commercial purposes—are quite likely to explode for multiple reasons such as sub-standard cylinders are unable to fulfil the important Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while refilling.
On the other hand, a moving vehicle caught fire near Shara-e-Faisal Nursery in Karachi, the occupants of the vehicle were fortunately safe, the residents of the area along with the rescue team have brought the fire under control.
It is pertinent to note that earlier in December 2023, at least three people were dead and 17 others were injured after a double-storey building collapsed due to a gas cylinder explosion in Machar Colony, Karachi.
The explosion happened in a gas cylinder shop when the gas was being transferred to the shop as a vehicle loaded with gas cylinders came for gas supply.
