Karachi: Imad Wasim’s participation hanged in the balance in the second match against India in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
There are speculations about participation of the all rounder in the upcoming match due to reports of his injuries.
Imad could not play the first match of T20 World Cup 2024 match against the United States of America. Earlier, the injury caused him to miss the fourth T20i against England in the recently concluded series.
Captain Babar Azam confirmed Wasim’s unavailability during a media briefing on Tuesday.
The sources said that left-arm spinner Mehran Mumtaz was asked to prepare as a possible replacement for Imad Wasim. Imad Wasim could not play the first match due to strain.
On Thursday, Pakistan’s men’s cricket team suffered a shocking five-run defeat against the USA in a thrilling Super Over finish.
In the Super Over, captain Babar Azam chose senior pacer Mohammad Amir to bowl. Amir, however, struggled with his line and length, conceding 18 runs, including three wides. Poor fielding and overthrows compounded Pakistan's woes.
Chasing 19 in the Super Over, Iftikhar Ahmed and Fakhar Zaman came to bat for Pakistan against USA’s Saurabh Netravalkar. After a dot ball on the first delivery, Iftikhar hit a four on the next, putting Netravalkar under pressure, leading to a wide.
However, Netravalkar quickly regained his composure and dismissed Iftikhar on the following delivery. Pakistan needed 14 runs from the last three balls, but Netravalkar held his nerve, leading the USA to a historic victory.
