Mimi Chakraborty receives rape threats after protesting Kolkata rape case
Chakraborty explains that after she raised her voice against the brutal incident involving a female doctor in Kolkata, she began receiving disturbing threats and obscene messages

Kokalta: Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) member and actress Mimi Chakraborty disclosed on Wednesday that she has been subjected to rape threats on social media after sharing posts protesting the Kolkata rape case.
Indian media reports revealed that Chakraborty took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to voice her concerns, questioning whether the calls for justice for women were being taken seriously.
In her post, she wrote, "We are demanding justice in a society where issuing rape threats to women has become normalized by vicious men."
Chakraborty explained that after she raised her voice against the brutal incident involving a female doctor in Kolkata, she began receiving disturbing threats and obscene messages. She further tagged the Kolkata Police's Cyber Cell Department in her post, posing the question, "What kind of upbringing and education permits such behavior?"
The reports also highlighted that Chakraborty had actively participated in the protests on August 14, calling for justice for the female doctor. She has remained vocal on social media in support of the victim.
The horrific incident occurred on August 9 in Kolkata, West Bengal, where a 31-year-old doctor was discovered dead at RG Kar Medical College. After working nearly 20 hours of a 36-hour shift, she had gone to rest in the seminar hall, according to the college staff. Tragically, the next day, her semi-nude body was found. The post-mortem report indicated that she had been brutally raped by multiple assailants before being strangled to death.
The Kolkata police since arrested a police officer in connection with the case, holding him responsible for the crime. The officer had been assigned to assist with the medical care of police officers and their families in hospitals.
