Internet shutdown, firewall installation challenged in LHC
Petition stated that the internet and social media apps have been shut down in the country without any notice or reason
Lahore: Nationwide internet shutdown and installation of firewall was challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC).
The petition was filed by Azhar Siddique, the head of the Judicial Activism Panel, and the federal government, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and others have been made parties in the petition.
The petition stated that the internet and social media apps have been shut down in the country without any notice or reason. Businesses and even every sphere of life are being affected due to the internet shutdown which is the violation of fundamental rights.
In the petition, it was requested that the decision of the federal government to shut down the internet should be annulled and orders should be issued to restore the internet completely and immediately in the country.
