Alleged rape: Students clash with security, police in Lahore leaves 27 wounded
Police said the suspect had been netted and an investigation is underway
Lahore: At least 27 people suffered multiple injuries after students clashed with a college’s security team and then with the police in Lahore during a protest against the alleged on-campus rape of a girl on Monday.
According to Rescue 1122 officials, the injured were provided first aid and shifted to hospitals. A day ago, a security guard was arrested after news related to the alleged rape of the student went viral on social media.
According to a police statement, the suspect had been netted and an investigation is underway.
Police didn't register a case of the incident as the family members of the victim had not come forward to lodge it.
According to a statement issued by Rescue 1122, a clash broke out between security personnel and students at the Hafeez Centre Punjab College Campus.
Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Faisal Kamran told a presser that the police were trying to locate the victim and her family so that the investigation could continue.
He said that so far claims related to the alleged rape could not be verified and that investigations were underway.
The DIG said that the protesting students had demanded the custody of the college principal following the alleged incident, adding the Model Town SP and ASP had evacuated the principal.
