PTI to join Judicial Commission of Pakistan
Judicial Commission is also authorized to propose suitable names for the judges of the High Court
Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has officially decided to become a part of the ‘Judicial Commission of Pakistan’.
According to the announcement of the special meeting of PTI’s political committee, it was agreed to nominate members from both houses of the Parliament for the Judicial Commission of Pakistan.
In the special meeting of the political committee, a comprehensive briefing was given on the nomination of two members for the Judicial Commission of Pakistan and the letter of the Speaker of the National Assembly in this regard.
It was briefed that the responsibilities of the 13-member Judicial Commission have been increased. The Judicial Commission will appoint judges in the Supreme Court, High Courts, and Federal Shariat Court. The Commission will monitor the performance of High Court Judges and prepare their annual performance report.
During the briefing, it was told that the Judicial Commission is also authorized to propose suitable names for the judges of the High Court. The same Judicial Commission will also establish benches in the High Court and the Supreme Court. One-third of the members of the Judicial Commission may convene a meeting of the Commission. The decisions of the 13-member commission will be made by a simple majority of the members.
In the briefing, it was said that according to Clause D, the absence of any member will not affect the credibility of the decision of the Commission and the decision of the Commission will be considered correct. The Judicial Commission of Pakistan will be a long-term commission. The role of the two members of the opposition in decision-making is of crucial importance.
In the special meeting, the proposal of the Political Committee to become a part of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan was unanimously approved. This decision of the political committee will be presented to the core committee for approval and to the founder PTI Imran Khan for final approval.
The categorical and principled party position regarding the 26th constitutional amendment was also reiterated in the special meeting of the PTI political committee.
