Health emergency in Lahore, Multan, complete lockdown for three days
Construction is being banned in both cities from Saturday to next Sunday
Lahore: The Punjab government has declared a health emergency in Lahore and Multan due to the worsening smog situation.
Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said in a press conference that they are imposing a health emergency in Lahore and Multan due to the worsening smog situation. There will be a complete lockdown in Lahore and Multan on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Construction is being banned in both cities from Saturday to next Sunday.
She stated that staff leaves at health desks and hospitals have been canceled, and departments have been instructed to make medicines available. Citizens should not travel on motorcycles except in emergencies and use masks.
The senior minister further said that the data will be seen by Wednesday. Smog has turned into a health crisis and the Punjab government is taking all possible steps to prevent it and gave a 10-year policy to prevent smog.
Marriyum Aurangzeb also stated that various government departments are working day and night to prevent smog. Kilns that do not use zigzag technology are being demolished, but controlling smog is a long-term process. Emergency measures are being taken for three months to control it.
The senior minister continued to say that due to smog, schools will remain closed for another week, and online classes will be held in colleges and universities. Restaurants will be open till 4:00pm, however, taking away food from the restaurants will be allowed till 8:00pm.
