Despite the apology, President Yoon did not announce his resignation from office
Seoul: South Korean President Yoon Seok Yeol has apologized for imposing martial law in the country but has not resigned from his post.
According to a foreign news agency, President Yoon Seok Yeol said in a televised address to the nation that martial law was declared out of his frustration as president. However, his action caused trouble and suffering to the people. He sincerely apologized to the citizens who suffered greatly. Despite the apology, President Yoon did not announce his resignation from office.
The vote on the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok Yeol in parliament will be held today. Citizens have planned large-scale protests in the capital Seoul on this occasion. President Yoon surprised his citizens and the international community a few days ago by imposing martial law in South Korea after more than four decades and deploying the military in parliament.
However, lawmakers in South Korea's parliament rejected the presidential decree to impose martial law, but the South Korean president reversed his decision after the parliament's resolution. The opposition and key members of President Yoon's party have called for his resignation.
