Parachinar protests: Karachiites get relief as key routes reopen for traffic
Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen has been managing sit-ins in the city for the last 12 days
Karachi: Motorists in the provincial capital got a sigh of relief after several key roads blocked by the protesters to condemn the recent Paracchinar killings in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district were cleared for traffic on Tuesday.
Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) has been managing sit-ins in the city for the last 12 days or so, with renewed demands for improved law and order in Parachinar. The protesters dispersed after police warnings, as the capital city police chief had vowed to clear roads from Tuesday.
Earlier, the MWM also called for a country-wide protest to express solidarity with the people of Parachinar.
The demonstrators are protesting the ongoing violence in Kurram as well as an incident where two people were killed and later decapitated after being waylaid on their way towards Parachinar in the district’s Bagan area.
Jauhar Mor heading to Jauhar Chowrangi; Five Star Chowrangi in North Nazimabad; Shamsuddin Azeemi Road towards KDA Flats in Surjani Town; Nawab Siddique Ali Khan Road in Nazimabad-1 going towards Nazimabad-2; and Ancholi and Ayesha Manzil on Shahrah-i-Pakistan have been cleared for traffic today.
However, the city traffic police (CTP) said the protests continued at four different points across the city.
