WhatsApp’s upcoming update: A revamped call menu for chats, groups

California: WhatsApp, the Meta-owned messaging platform, is currently working on a redesigned call menu feature for individual and group chats, set for a future update.

According to WABetaInfo, the platform is testing a new call link feature with some beta users.

This feature enables users to quickly generate call links directly from the chat interface, making it easier to initiate voice or video calls.

The call link shortcut is integrated within the chat's attachment sheet, accessible by tapping the attachment icon in the chat bar.

In addition, WhatsApp is enhancing its calling features to improve user convenience, especially by simplifying access to calling tools.

The platform is exploring a redesign of the call options in the app’s top bar within both individual and group chats.

Currently, WhatsApp has two separate buttons—one for voice calls and the other for video calls. Tapping either button directly initiates the call, sometimes leading to accidental calls.

In the upcoming update, WhatsApp plans to consolidate these buttons into a single menu, offering more options beyond voice and video calls.

This redesign will provide users with more control over their calls, particularly in group chats. The updated call menu will also include a shortcut to quickly create and share call links without needing to access the calls tab or attachment menu.
