Rohit Sharma was declared Player of the Match for his brilliant batting


Dubai: India won the Champions Trophy for the third time by defeating New Zealand by 4 wickets in the final ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
In this match held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and elected to bat. The New Zealand team scored 251 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. India achieved the target for the loss of 6 wickets in the 49th over.
The Kiwi team had to suffer its first loss in the form of Will Young for 57 runs, who was returned to the pavilion by Varun Chakravarthy. Opener Rachan Ravindra fell victim to spinner Kuldeep Yadav on 69 runs, while Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Kane Williamson for the team's total score of 75.
The Kiwi team suffered its fourth loss in the form of Tom Latham, who was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja. New Zealand's fifth wicket against India fell for 165 runs when Glenn Phillips was dismissed for 34 runs by Varun Chakravarthy.
New Zealand's sixth wicket against India fell for 211 runs when Daryl Mitchell played an innings of 63 runs and was dismissed by Mohammed Shami.
New Zealand's seventh wicket against India fell for 239 runs and captain Mitchell Santner was run out for 8 runs.
In pursuit of the target, India had a solid start and openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill put on a 105-run partnership. Shubman Gill was dismissed for 31 runs, and Rohit Sharma played an innings of 76 runs.
Virat Kohli was dismissed for one run, Hardik Pandya scored 18, Axar Patel scored 29 runs, and Shreyas Iyer scored 48 runs. KL Rahul was not out with 34 runs.
Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell took 2 wickets each for New Zealand.

New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra was declared the Player of the Tournament, Rachin Ravindra scored 263 runs in 4 matches and took 3 wickets.
India has become the winner of the ICC Champions Trophy for the third time. Earlier, in 2002, India was the joint champion with Sri Lanka, while in 2013, it defeated England.
It is pertinent to note that, India and New Zealand competed in the final of the Champions Trophy after 25 years. 25 years ago, in the final of the second edition of the ICC Champions Trophy played in Nairobi, New Zealand defeated India by 4 wickets thanks to a brilliant century by Chris Keynes.
