Cricketer Junaid Zafar Khan dies of medical emergency during hot Adelaide match

(Web Desk): Junaid Zafar Khan, a club cricketer in Adelaide, has tragically died after collapsing on the field during a match in extremely hot weather.

Khan, who was in his 40s, was playing for the Old Concordians Cricket Club against Prince Alfred Old Collegians at Concordia College Oval on Saturday. The incident occurred around 4pm local time when he suffered a medical emergency. Despite the efforts of paramedics to revive him, Khan was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the time of the incident, the temperature in Adelaide was recorded above 40°C. According to the Adelaide Turf Cricket Association rules, games must be cancelled if temperatures reach 42°C, although matches can continue with modified conditions up to 40°C.

The Old Concordians Cricket Club released a statement confirming Khan’s death, expressing deep sadness.

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of a valued member of the Old Concordians’ Cricket Club, who tragically suffered a medical episode while playing on the Concordia College oval today," the club said. "Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he sadly did not survive. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends, and teammates."

Khan moved to Adelaide from Pakistan in 2013 for work in the tech industry. He was remembered as a kind and generous person by his friends and teammates. "He was destined for very big things in his life," said teammate Hasan Anjum. Another friend, Najam Hassan, described Khan as a "gem of a person."

The incident occurred during a heatwave affecting South Australia, with temperatures also reaching nearly 40°C in other regions.
