President Zardari reiterates that Pakistan will continue to protect its security at all costs

Islamabad: Pakistan is celebrating Pakistan Day today (Sunday) with great enthusiasm and national pride. The highlight of the celebrations is the military parade at Aiwan-e-Sadr, which is being held to honor the 1940 Lahore Resolution. This resolution laid the foundation for the creation of Pakistan as a separate homeland for Muslims in South Asia.
This year, President Asif Ali Zardari is the chief guest at the Pakistan Day parade. Other important figures attending include Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, military leaders, and various dignitaries. The parade is being held at Aiwan-e-Sadr instead of the traditional Shakarparian Parade Ground. The day began with a 31-gun salute in the capital and a 21-gun salute in the provinces.
In Lahore, a change of guard ceremony took place at the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal, with a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) contingent taking over the duties from the Rangers.
During the parade, President Zardari delivered a speech, recalling the sacrifices made by millions of Muslims who gave their lives for the creation of Pakistan. He highlighted the importance of the Pakistan Day and emphasized that the country’s freedom was earned through immense sacrifices.
"We achieved our freedom through many sacrifices," he said. "This is a day to remember the struggles that led to the creation of our nation."
President Zardari also praised the unity of Pakistan's people and military, stating that the nation is capable of overcoming any challenges. "We have the strength to face difficulties, and we are not afraid," he said. "The path ahead will be tough, but it is not impossible."
He called on all Pakistanis to work together for the development of the country. "We must put aside our differences and work for a peaceful and prosperous Pakistan," he added. He also stressed the importance of the youth in the country’s future, calling them a vital resource.
Regarding foreign relations, President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to peace and stability in the region. He also expressed Pakistan's desire to build stronger ties with neighboring countries and the international community.
On this day, the president also remembered the people of Kashmir, who have long suffered from Indian oppression. "We will continue to raise our voice for Kashmiris on all international platforms," he said. "Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir remains unwavering."
The president further stated that Pakistan aims to become a strong, modern, and welfare-focused Islamic state. He emphasized the need to protect the country’s independence, which was won through immense sacrifices. "We are ready to make any sacrifice for the safety and freedom of our motherland," he declared.
President Zardari also touched on the fight against terrorism, stressing that Pakistan is determined to defeat extremist groups, referring to them as "Fitna al-Khawarij." He stated that the entire nation stands united with the armed forces in the fight against terrorism. "Terrorism must be eradicated," he said. "We are facing modern security threats, including fifth-generation warfare, but we are a brave nation, capable of overcoming them."
The president reiterated that Pakistan will continue to protect its security at any cost. "We have responded strongly to both external and internal threats," he said, emphasizing Pakistan’s resolve in the face of challenges. He also criticized India for its hostile stance toward Pakistan, noting that India has always shown animosity toward the country.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also delivered a message for Pakistan Day. He stressed that with the right policies, dedication, and national unity, Pakistan can achieve economic prosperity, social justice, and secure its place among the world’s nations.
"Pakistan Day is a reminder of our collective determination and the sacrifices made to build this nation," the prime minister said. "From being an emerging nation to becoming a nuclear power, Pakistan’s journey has been one of perseverance and commitment. But this is not the end. It will require sustained effort and a shared vision to make Pakistan the country envisioned by our founding father, Muhammad Ali Jinnah."
The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) and the Service Chiefs extend heartfelt congratulations to the nation on the 85th anniversary of Pakistan Day.
"The 23rd of March 1940 stands as a defining moment in our history — a day that crystallised our collective vision and set the course for the creation of an independent homeland," read the statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
"Rooted in faith, guided by hope, and strengthened by resilience, this occasion epitomises the unwavering resolve of the Pakistani people.”
"Today, Pakistan stands as a responsible and resolute member of the global community — advocating peace, stability, and cooperation. As one united nation, we march forward with renewed hope and an unshakable commitment to enduring prosperity. We shall continue to uphold and defend the peace that defines our national character, ensuring that Pakistan remains a beacon of harmony in the world," the military's media wing added.
