This move is expected to bring major change to Dubai’s transportation system and improve integration within city's public transport network

(Web Desk): Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the launch of autonomous taxis in the city by 2026.
The RTA revealed its expanded partnership with global companies specializing in autonomous technology to operate these taxis in Dubai.
The collaboration includes Uber Technologies, Inc. and WeRide, who will roll out autonomous vehicles through the Uber platform in Dubai. Another partner is Baidu, a Chinese company that leads the field in autonomous driving solutions through its Apollo Go division.
Mattar Al Tayer, the Director-General of RTA, stated that Uber, along with WeRide and Baidu, will begin pilot operations of autonomous taxis in Dubai later this year. Initially, there will be a safety driver in the vehicle during these tests, but the goal is to officially launch these taxis in 2026.
This move is expected to bring a major change to Dubai’s transportation system and improve integration within the city's public transport network. The initiative aims to offer more convenience and safety to Dubai residents. It is part of the RTA's strategy to improve the first and last mile of transportation, which includes the journey to or from public transport.
One of the key benefits of autonomous vehicles is increased road safety, as human error is responsible for over 90% of traffic accidents. These vehicles will also serve a wide range of people, including seniors, residents, and those with disabilities.
