NHA increases toll rates by 15-50% across motorways and highways

Islamabad: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has raised toll taxes by 15 to 50 percent for its motorways and highways, effective from April 1.

This increase comes less than three months after a similar hike on January 5.

Under the new toll rates, the charge for cars has increased from Rs60 to Rs70. Vans and jeeps now face a toll of Rs150, up from Rs100. The toll for buses has risen from Rs200 to Rs250. Owners of 2 and 3-axle trucks will now pay Rs300, up from Rs250, while articulated truck drivers will have to pay Rs550 instead of Rs500.

The toll rates for major motorways have also gone up, including M1, M3, M4, M5, M14, and E35. On the M1 Islamabad-Peshawar motorway, the toll for cars is now Rs550, up from Rs500, while the M3 Lahore-Abdul Hakim motorway has seen an increase from Rs700 to Rs800.

For the Islamabad-Peshawar motorway, the revised tolls are Rs850 for a wagon or 12-seater, Rs1,150 for a 13-15 seater or coaster, Rs1,650 for a bus, and Rs2,150 for 2 and 3-axle trucks. Articulated truck drivers will pay Rs2,650.

Other routes like the M4 Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad-Multan motorway have raised car tolls from Rs950 to Rs1,050, and the M5 Multan-Sukkur motorway toll has increased from Rs1,100 to Rs1,200. The toll for larger vehicles now ranges from Rs850 to Rs5,750, depending on the type of vehicle and route.

The NHA has not provided a detailed reason for the increase, but it is in line with periodic adjustments for road maintenance and infrastructure costs.
