Samples of sand and water from site have been collected for chemical analysis

Karachi: A fire that broke out in a pit at Korangi Creek, Karachi, has continued to burn for six days, despite efforts to contain it.
The district administration has sealed the plot where the fire started, with fire tenders from Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and the Cantonment Board present at the site.
Due to the intense heat from the fire, the district administration temporarily halted efforts to extinguish the blaze on Saturday. The fire reportedly ignited after drilling a 1200-foot borehole. Samples of sand and water from the site have been collected for chemical analysis, which will help identify the nature and volume of the gas involved.
Officials explained that if the gas reserve is small, the fire could burn out on its own within a few days. However, if the reserve is large, additional safety measures will be implemented to secure the site.
