WhatsApp introduces advanced privacy feature to enhance chat security
In addition to limiting media saving, the feature will restrict exporting entire chat histories

(Web Desk): WhatsApp is working on a new privacy feature designed to enhance chat security and limit how messages and media are shared.
The feature is expected to be available in a future update, according to WABetaInfo, which reports details from the latest WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.25.10.14), now available on the Google Play Store.
This new feature will let users control whether media, like photos and videos, is automatically saved to their phone’s gallery. Currently, this feature is already in use for chats with disappearing messages. With the upcoming update, WhatsApp plans to extend this control to all users who enable the new privacy setting.
In addition to limiting media saving, the feature will restrict exporting entire chat histories. This means users who activate the privacy setting will prevent their chat history from being shared or transferred without permission. This is a step toward protecting private conversations and stopping unauthorized sharing of sensitive data.
The feature is also designed to block users from exporting chat histories that include messages from users who have enabled the advanced privacy settings. However, it won’t stop users from forwarding messages, as the goal is to maintain usability.
One significant point is that users will not be able to interact with Meta’s AI if they activate this feature in a chat. The feature will ensure that conversations stay private and secure, but it also means that certain functions, like using Meta AI, will be disabled for these chats.
As of now, WhatsApp has not introduced any system to prevent users from taking screenshots of chats. The company likely avoided this feature because users could still capture screenshots using WhatsApp Web or other methods. Web clients don’t have the same protections as mobile apps, making it difficult to stop screenshots entirely. Furthermore, since messages can still be forwarded, preventing screenshots would not be effective, as users could simply share the information through forwarding.
The advanced chat privacy feature is still in early development, and WhatsApp may add more features in the future based on user feedback and testing. If users decide to disable the feature, all privacy restrictions will be lifted.
