Following this decision, South Korea will hold new presidential elections within 60 days

Seoul: South Korea's Constitutional Court has removed President Yoon Suk Yeol from office for imposing martial law in the country.
According to foreign news agencies, the court's 8 judges unanimously decided to confirm the president's impeachment.
In its ruling, the court stated that the declaration of martial law and the deployment of the military in parliament was a clear violation of the constitution, and this action posed a serious threat to democracy.
The court further stated that the president used the military for political purposes, which constitutes a violation of the constitutional office.
It is noteworthy that President Yoon Suk Yeol imposed a brief martial law on December 3, 2024, after which the opposition presented a no-confidence motion. Initially, the motion failed, but in a second attempt, the opposition succeeded in having the president impeached.
Following this decision, South Korea will hold new presidential elections within 60 days.
It is also worth mentioning that Yoon Suk Yeol had previously been charged with treason, and he was arrested during investigations into the martial law.
