Karachi cop booked, arrested for using derogatory language against President Zardari

Karachi: A Karachi police officer was booked in a case and arrested for posting an inappropriate message against the President of Pakistan. The Station Investigation Officer (SIO) Abrar Shah was arrested by the Sukkan police, who filed a case against him under the PECA Act.

According to the police, Investigating Officer Abrar Shah had posted a message on Facebook on April 2, using derogatory language against President Asif Ali Zardari.

The case was registered on the complaint of Duty Officer Yaqub at the Sukkan police station. In the case details, Duty Officer Yaqub mentioned that he was reading people's comments on his mobile phone when, at 8:40pm, Abrar Shah posted a comment in English.

In his statement, Duty Officer Yaqub stated that Abrar Shah wrote an offensive message referring to a high-ranking official, which caused distress to him and other citizens. He further noted that the act falls under Section 504 of the PECA  Act and Section 21 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

The case document also mentioned that an investigation would be transferred to the relevant investigating officer for further inquiry.
