The discussions will focus on improving governance and tackling corruption to support Pakistan's reform plans

Islamabad: A delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has arrived in Pakistan to review governance and corruption issues. The IMF team will begin meetings with Pakistani officials on Monday.
The main goal of the mission is to offer technical support to help Pakistan improve its reform efforts. The discussions will focus on improving governance and tackling corruption to support Pakistan's reform plans.
The IMF team will also review budget proposals for the fiscal year 2025-26 and hold follow-up talks on technical support for governance. They will work with the Ministry of Finance to discuss ways to increase tax revenue, control government spending, and finalize proposals for the upcoming budget. The federal budget for 2025-26 is expected to be presented to the National Assembly in the first week of June.
Earlier, the IMF praised Pakistan’s efforts to reduce public debt, control inflation, improve tax fairness, and maintain price stability. This recognition was given on March 26.
In addition, the IMF recently reached an agreement with Pakistan for a new $1.3 billion arrangement and approved the first review of the ongoing 37-month bailout program. This deal was confirmed by the IMF in a statement last month.
