Karachi Mayor says plans are underway to reduce waste and make it usable by installing recycling plants in every district


Karachi: A pilot project to generate biogas and compost from wet waste and animal manure has been launched in South District.
Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, along with MD (SSWMB) Tariq Ali Nizamani, visited the KMC workshop and inspected the modern biogas plant pilot project, BioDome, which has been installed through the joint efforts of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board and Aysis International.
During the visit, the Mayor praised the initiative of starting the project and appreciated the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board and Aysis International for their efforts. He further stated that the launch of the pilot project to produce biogas and compost from kitchen waste in South District is a positive step. Measures have already been taken to make the waste usable after collecting it from households.
He mentioned that plans are underway to reduce waste and make it usable by installing recycling plants in every district. He added that a location will be selected for further large-scale projects, and any required cooperation will be provided. He directed that the pilot project be expanded to a larger scale soon, which will help make Karachi cleaner.
