Lahore: Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar has directed Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) and the provincial management to stay alert as first spell of monsoon rains lashed different parts of Punjab.
According to details, the chief minister has ordered relevant authorities to ensure timely drainage of rainwater in low lying areas.
He directed WASA officials and administration to use all available resources for drainage saying no negligence will not be tolerated in this regard.
The monsoon rain turned the weather pleasant and provided respite to people from hot, humid weather conditions in Lahore and Karachi on Monday.
Lahore received rainfall, a spell likely to persist till Thursday, said Pakistan Meteorological Department. The Met Office has predicted more rain accompanied by thunderstorm in various cities of Punjab including Gujranwala, Mianwali, Zafarwal,Murredkay, Daska,Pind Dadan Khan and Kala Baagh.
In Sindh, heavy rain lashed Karachi resulting in power outages in different areas. Different areas of the metropolitan city from Sadar, Malir, Landhi, Steel Town, Gulshan Iqbal, Old City Area, Safoora and Sadar received light to heavy rainfall. The Met Office has predicted rain to continue for the next 24 hours. Moreover, weather will remain humid and cloudy in MirpurKhas, Sukkur, Hyderabad, Benazirabad and Sanghar.
Various parts of Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir also received heavy rain inundating the low-lying areas.
