Petitioner stated that there is no post of Deputy PM in the Constitution of Pakistan

Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected the appeal against the appointment of Ishaq Dar as Deputy Prime Minister, pronouncing the reserved decision.
According to the details, the LHC rejected the appeal against the appointment of Ishaq Dar as Deputy Prime Minister and upheld the decision of the single bench to reject the petition.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal gave a reserved decision on an intra-court appeal against the decision of the single bench filed by a woman, Ishba Kamran.
The petitioner took the position that there is no post of Deputy Prime Minister in the Constitution of Pakistan. The Prime Minister has appointed Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar as the illegal Deputy Prime Minister.
The petitioner stated in the petition filed through a lawyer that the LHC should declare the appointment of Ishaq Dar null and void, however, it ordered the rejection of the woman’s appeal.
It is pertinent to note that Ishaq Dar is also performing his duties as Foreign Minister, along with this he also holds the post of Deputy Prime Minister. Before him, Pervez Elahi was given the post of Deputy Prime Minister during the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) government.
Earlier in August 2024, the Sindh High Court (SHC) issued notices to the parties on the petition against the appointment of Senator Ishaq Dar as Deputy Prime Minister.
The Sindh High Court had sought a written response from the parties within six weeks.
The public prosecutor had taken the position that the petition would become ineffective after six weeks, to which Justice Yousaf Ali Saeed asked if the appointment of the Deputy Prime Minister end after 6 weeks. Notice has been given on the hearing of the petition immediately, the case will be reviewed on the next date.
The public prosecutor had said that similar petitions have been rejected by the Peshawar and Lahore High Courts.
