‘Such harsh measures will increase the burden of inflation on consumers, further strain global trade relations, and disrupt supply chains’

Washington: US President Donald Trump has escalated the ongoing trade war with China by issuing an executive order imposing a 245% tariff on Chinese products.
According to the White House, the decision was made in response to China’s retaliatory economic measures. In the executive order issued on April 15, Trump stated that it was necessary to respond to China’s "unfair trade practices."
The statement read, "China’s retaliatory actions have compelled us to take this step." The Trump administration claims the move is essential for both economic and national security reasons.
Economic experts have warned that such harsh measures will increase the burden of inflation on consumers, further strain global trade relations, and disrupt supply chains.
So far, Beijing has not issued any official response. Experts believe China may either appeal to the World Trade Organization (WTO) or take further retaliatory actions.
The order takes immediate effect and will apply to a wide range of Chinese products. Specific sector details will soon be released by the U.S. Trade Office.
