Meta to use AI to verify users’ age

California: Meta has decided to use artificial intelligence (AI) technology to verify the age of Instagram users.

This AI tool will determine the real age of the user, even if he/she misrepresent it.

If the user misrepresents his/her age, the AI ​​technology will determine the real age and automatically transfer people under the age of 18 to ‘teen accounts’.

Teen accounts were introduced by Meta in September 2024.

These accounts are for users aged 13 to 17, and the company has imposed various restrictions on such accounts to protect young people.

The company said in a blog post that if there is a suspicion that an account belongs to a minor, the age will be immediately verified, and the account will be moved to restricted settings.

Meta acknowledged that the system can make mistakes, and users can adjust the settings again if necessary.

The company said that we have been using AI technology to verify age for some time, but now it is undergoing a major change.

Until now, there was no such method that could let the company know the real age of the person using this service.

This is why Meta decided to use AI.

According to the company, knowing the real age of people online is a big challenge; we will continue to take steps to protect young people and provide the best experience according to their age.

This feature will be tested first in the United States.
