Mike Hesson played key role in Islamabad United's victory in PSL 9

Lahore: The Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the name of the new head coach for the national cricket team.
On social networking site X (Twitter), PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi wrote: “After evaluation of numerous applications received against the vacancy, I am pleased to announce that former New Zealand cricketer and renowned coach, Mike Hesson, will join as the new white-ball head coach for the Pakistan National Team, effective May 26”.
He said that we look forward to his expertise and guidance in shaping the future of the Pakistani cricket team.

Earlier, news had emerged that the current coach of Islamabad United, Mike Hesson, would take over as the head coach of the national team at the end of the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The contract of Aqib Javed, who served as interim coach after Gary Kirsten resigned, also expired in February 2025, and he is not interested in renewing the contract.
Mike Hesson's qualifications
Hesson, who hails from New Zealand, has worked as the Director of Cricket at the famous Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore while also coaching the Kiwi team.
Mike Hesson played a key role in Islamabad United's victory in PSL 9, which was their first season in the league.
Former legendary spinner Saqlain Mushtaq was also a strong candidate for the post of head coach for the national team, but now he can be associated with the national team as a bowling coach.
