‘Our negotiations with them are going nowhere’

(Web Desk): US President Donald Trump has proposed imposing a 50% trade tariff on the European Union (EU) starting June 1, 2025.
In a statement posted on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said that dealing with the European Union has proven to be extremely difficult.
He stated that the EU’s trade barriers, VAT taxes, corporate penalties, non-financial trade obstacles, and unjust legal actions against American companies have led to an annual trade deficit of over $25 billion for the United States, which he called "completely unacceptable."
Regarding ongoing talks with the EU, Trump added, “Our negotiations with them are going nowhere.”
He further stated, “Therefore, I am recommending a 50% tariff on the European Union starting June 1, 2025.”
Trump clarified that any product made or manufactured in the US will not be subject to this tariff.
Previously, in April, Trump had imposed a 20% retaliatory tariff on the EU, which was later revoked.
