Fine of up to AED2 million will be imposed for violating media laws


Dubai: For the first time in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a new media regulation system has been introduced, bringing major changes to the country's media laws.
According to the Emirates Media Council, a fine of up to AED2 million will be imposed for violating media laws, while a doubling of the fine was also announced for repeated violations.
The Emirates Media Council said that 20 new standards have been set for media content, and a new platform will be introduced soon for public oversight.
According to the Emirates Media Council, special packages are included to encourage local content, while specific conditions have been set for establishing media institutions.
In addition, the new media regulation system also includes license revocation and other severe penalties.
