Beloved daughter of former PM Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, was born on June 21, 1953, in Karachi


Lahore: The 72nd birthday of Pakistan's first female Prime Minister, martyred Benazir Bhutto, is being celebrated today (Saturday).
Cake-cutting ceremonies will be held at various places in the city to pay tribute to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. The ceremonies will highlight the life, services for democracy, and martyrdom of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.
Benazir Bhutto, the beloved daughter of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, was born on June 21, 1953, in Karachi. Her father named her Pinky in childhood. Benazir Bhutto received her higher education from Oxford and Harvard Universities. Benazir Bhutto visited many countries along with her father, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
After her father's arrest, Benazir, along with her mother Begum Nusrat Bhutto, took over the control and leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) at a very young age. On April 4, 1979, after the execution of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir was arrested and placed under house arrest.
Since then, Benazir Bhutto has struggled against dictatorship and later went into exile. When she stepped onto the land of Lahore in 1986 after ending her exile, she was welcomed by millions of people.
Benazir Bhutto married Asif Ali Zardari in 1987. After winning the 1988 general elections, she became the first female Prime Minister of Asia, but her government was dismissed in 1990.
Shaheed Benazir became the Prime Minister for the second time in 1993. Her government was dismissed once again in 1996. Benazir Bhutto landed in Karachi in 2007 after her second exile.
Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto once again started her election campaign across the country, during which on December 27, 2007, she was returning from addressing a rally in Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi, when terrorists martyred her in the fulfillment of their ambitions.
Daughter of the East, Martyr of Democracy, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, was a world-renowned political leader; she will always be unforgettable in history.
