Birmingham: India's Test captain Shubman Gill has created several records by scoring a double century in the second Test of the five-match series against England.

The second match of the five-match Test series between England and India is underway in Birmingham, where on the second day of the match on Thursday, Indian captain Shubman Gill scored a brilliant double century in India's first innings, scoring 269 runs.

This is the first double century of Shubman Gill's Test career.

By playing an innings of 269 runs, Shubman has won the title of Indian captain who has played the highest innings in Test cricket. Earlier, this record was held by Virat Kohli, who scored 254 runs as captain in 2019.

With this brilliant performance, 25-year-old Gill became the first Indian captain to score a double century in England.

Shubman also broke Mohammad Azharuddin's 35-year-old record for the highest Test innings by an Indian captain in England, who scored 179 runs in Manchester in 1990.

In addition, Gill also became the highest individual score by an Indian batsman in an innings of a Test match in England.

He broke the record of former Indian legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, who scored 221 runs at the Oval in 1979.

It is pertinent to note that in the second Test against England, the Indian cricket team was bowled out for 587 runs in the first innings.

In reply, the English team scored 77 runs for 3 wickets by the end of the second day's play.

The host English team has a one-nil lead in the five-Test series.
