Muharram 9 central processions underway in major cities

Lahore/Karachi/Islamabad: The 9th of Muharram-ul Haram is being observed on Saturday with due solemnity and respect to pay homage to the sacrifice rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in Karbala.

Majalis will be held in all small and major cities while processions of Tazia and Alam will also be taken out in different cities.

In the federal capital Islamabad, the 9th Muharram procession emerged from Markzai Imam Bargah G-6/2.

After passing through its traditional route, the procession will culminate at the same point.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made to thwart any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, on the directions of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, a mobile control room has been established for the first time in Islamabad as part of the Ashura security plan.

The mobile control room is capable of operating even without mobile signals, ensuring uninterrupted monitoring and coordination.

Major cities across the country, including Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar, are observing Muharram 9 processions on Saturday under heightened security, with mobile phone services suspended in some areas and key locations sealed amid fears of unrest.

Authorities in Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar deployed tens of thousands of police personnel, sealed sensitive areas, and partially suspended mobile phone services in efforts to prevent any untoward incidents, Express News reported.

Karachi’s central mourning procession of Muharram 9 left Nishtar Park towards its destination of Hussainiya Iraniyan Imambargah in Kharadar on Saturday amid tight security, according to police.

In Islamabad, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi on Saturday visited the entry and exit points of the central 9th Muharram procession at Imambargah Asna Ashri in Sector G-6 to personally inspect and supervise the security arrangements.

A public relations officer told APP that IGP Rizvi monitored the deployment and guided personnel stationed at various points, ensuring strict implementation of security protocols.

IGP Rizvi personally stood at the main entry points, checked arriving mourners, and oversaw the screening process to ensure that no individual entered without proper verification.

IG Rizvi said no person would be allowed to enter the procession without passing through thorough checking at the designated entry points.

IG is personally leading and monitoring all security operations during the procession. He said all police personnel have been directed to remain on high alert until the conclusion of the procession.
