Cellular services remain shut in different cities

(Web Desk): Pakistan is observing Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, with religious devotion and solemnity on Sunday, commemorating the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA)—the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)—and his loyal companions in the plains of Karbala.
Ashura stands as a day of remembrance for the resilience and unwavering faith shown by Imam Hussain (RA) and his followers, who stood against tyranny and injustice to uphold the true spirit of Islam. Across the country, mourning processions and religious gatherings are being held, accompanied by traditional rituals of grief and lamentation, including Matam, Majalis, and Zuljanah processions.
To ensure public safety during these processions, stringent security arrangements have been enforced throughout the country. Last week, the Ministry of Interior approved the deployment of the Pakistan Army and Civil Armed Forces (CAFs) nationwide to reinforce law and order during the holy month. As part of heightened precautions, mobile phone and internet services have been suspended in several major cities to prevent any untoward incidents.
Karachi
In Karachi, the main Ashura procession began from Nishtar Park following a night of Majalis observed on 9th Muharram. The procession is making its way through the traditional route and will culminate at Bargah Hussainian Iranian Kharadar later this evening, where the observance of Sham-e-Ghareeban will take place.
To maintain law and order, pillion riding remains banned in the city. MA Jinnah Road has been closed to traffic, and key commercial areas such as Saddar, Empress Market, and Regal Market have been sealed. Law enforcement personnel have been deployed across the route to ensure foolproof security.
Lahore
In Lahore, the main procession began from Nisar Haveli located in Mochi Gate. Following its traditional route through the Walled City, the procession is expected to conclude at Karbala Gaamay Shah by the evening. Here, mourners will gather for Sham-e-Ghareeban, reflecting on the sacrifices of Karbala.
Rawalpindi
In Rawalpindi, the central Zuljanah procession commenced from Imam Bargah Colonel Maqbool Hussain and is scheduled to end at Qadeemi Imam Bargah after the Maghrib prayers. Following the instructions of Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engineer Aamir Khattak, around 5,500 police personnel have been deployed throughout the city to maintain peace and respond swiftly in case of emergencies.
