‘Situation is being monitored moment by moment’

(Web Desk): Following the recent stormy rains in various areas of Punjab, 33 people have lost their lives, and more than 170 citizens have been injured. In response, an emergency has been imposed in several districts of Punjab.
According to reports, severe stormy rains in Rawalpindi, Chakwal, and surrounding areas have caused flooding in streams and rivers. On the directions of the Director-General of Punjab WASA, Tayyab Fareed, all WASA field teams have been mobilized.
Like other cities in Punjab, Lahore is also experiencing a monsoon system, with light to heavy rain expected today. The minimum temperature in Lahore is expected to be 27°C, with a maximum of 29°C. In light of the rainfall, officials and staff from WASA, LWMC, the Metropolitan Corporation, and the Housing Department are on high alert.
The DG of Punjab WASA stated that all disposal stations are being operated at full capacity, and rescue teams are on alert to handle any emergencies. Citizens have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from power lines and open manholes.
The DG of WASA further instructed all offices to continuously monitor water drainage during and after the rainfall. He emphasized the need to use all available resources to ensure water drainage in low-lying areas.
According to the spokesperson for WASA Punjab, the situation is being monitored moment by moment.
The spokesperson for PDMA (Provincial Disaster Management Authority) stated that this year's monsoon rains have resulted in 103 deaths and 393 injuries. Additionally, 128 houses were affected, and 6 livestock were killed.
In the last 24 hours, the monsoon rains led to 63 deaths and 290 injuries. In Lahore, 15 deaths were reported, along with 9 in Faisalabad, 5 in Sahiwal, 3 in Pakpattan, and 9 in Okara.
The DG of PDMA mentioned that monsoon rains will continue across the province today, and an alert for flooding in Punjab's rivers and streams has been issued.
He also urged citizens to take precautionary measures in light of the rainy season and advised against living in old, dilapidated houses. The majority of fatalities have occurred due to roof collapses in fragile buildings. Parents are advised to keep children away from power lines, poles, and low-lying areas.
By taking safety precautions, both human and financial losses can be avoided.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, in a message on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), announced that a rain emergency has been declared in various areas of Punjab due to the unusual stormy rains and flood-like conditions.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that government agencies are working with dedication and extreme effort. She has instructed the administration to keep the public informed through sirens and announcements.
The Chief Minister of Punjab also urged the public to cooperate with the authorities and follow safety instructions.
